Silas Ngereso has depended on the farm for as long as he can remember to provide him a decent and comfortable life. He loves his farm and puts in so much work and dedication which never fails to bear fruit. The farm currently boasts three acres of maize and two dairy cattle. The milk he sells to milk vendors and the neighboring homes, besides providing for his family’s table.
He sells the maize to market traders in Kitale town and at other times to the Kenya National Cereals and produce Board. He engages his whole family in the physical and learning activities that gardening provide whenever they can help which he says motivates his four children to take responsibility for the farm, own it and love it.
He is seeking $400 from MHML to diversify his agricultural activities. His passion and market needs have motivated him to start horticulture farming. He wants to start growing green vegetables and tomatoes to sell to the demanding Kitale market as well as save his family money at the grocery stores, besides providing healthier options due to the reduced amounts of pesticides that he will use on his vegetables garden.
Seeing and taking part in crops growing from the soil to fruition makes him one with nature and this is the driving force behind his successful agribusiness.
