Business: Agri-business
Location: Makutano, Kitale
Years in Operation: 20 Years
Amount needed: $500

For the last twenty years, Paul Wachira Kamau a Primary school teacher in Kitale, has practiced small scale farming on his land in Makutano area of Kitale. The father of three school going children with his wife combine the earnings from their farming activities with those of his teaching career to cater for all the school fees needs of their children as well as all their family’s basic needs. These earnings have also enabled them to save up money to buy their own two acres of land as well as build their house.

His farm is sectioned into parcels of healthy maize and vegetables which he and his wife have carefully tended to and look forward to an abundant harvest and higher after sale profits. In the past, his Poultry farming has been majorly small scale for his own domestic consumption and to sell of to a few neighbors. He is now seeking $500 from MHML to be able to expand his poultry farming (chicken rearing) so as to make money from selling chicken as well as eggs.

The money, in addition to some of his savings will enable him to grow broilers (which grow so fast) and sell them out to the ready consumers who have already expressed the need for them. He also intends to breed layers with the major aim of having them lay eggs for sale, and eventually sell them off when they become weak and no longer lay eggs as expected.

He has a vision to include many other poultry farming ventures (Poultry feed production, Hatchery and Poultry consultancy) and create employment for a few young people and he is optimistic that his poultry farming business will scale, gradually but steadily to allow him see his dreams come true.
