Naomi Wangoi Muiruri is a single mother of four school going children who believes in the fruits of hard work to feed and raise her family. For the last seven years, she has tilled her lands in Kahuho area of Makutano,Kitale and sold its produce to not only provide her family’s daily needs but afford the education of her school going children.
She grows maize on her two acres of land which upon harvest sells on wholesale basis to large scale traders and brokers who buy directly from her farm. This she says saves her transport costs as well as reduce wastage and labour costs.
She also grows tea on another two acres of land which she sells to Kapsara tea factory (a local tea processing factory in Makutano Kitale)to fetch better prices for it. From the two cash crops(maize and tea) she is able to create employment albeit on casual/temporary basis to people of her village who help her out at different stages of growing, tending and harvesting/picking the maize/tea.
She has one dairy cow which she bought from a $200 loan that Moto Hope Micro-Lending accorded her in the past. The cow produces milk which she sells to milk vendors right outside her home. Her family also enjoys some of the milk that she spares for their own domestic consumption.
The demand for the milk as well as the exciting profits she gets from the milk have driven her to seek a further $300 from Moto Hope Micro-Lending. With it, she will be able to buy another dairy cow hence double the milk production, as well as sales that will directly translate to higher profits.
Higher profits for her mean a better life and assured brighter future for her children! She lauds the fact that Moto Hope accorded her a very affordable and flexible loan (the initial $200 loan) whose impact is evident in her improved earnings and could never think of seeking any other money lender besides MHML.
