For the past fourteen years, Nancy has passionately and creatively run her hairdressing business in Molo town. She is very gifted and so fast yet meticulous in her service to clients. This has made her a household name in Molo market where she operates attracting clients from both Molo and outside of Molo’s environs. The bread winner of her family continues to better her skills and attends refresher courses on people and finance management so as to improve and sustain her venture at all times. Her salon is a one stop shop for all of her clients’ hair needs and her talent and friendly nature continue to earn her more clients.

MHML loaned Nancy a total of $400 to increase her stock of hair and beauty products, handbags and fabric which she sells in her salon. It is after restocking that she was able to earn herself trainees from The Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Project (KYEOP). KYEOP is a partnership between the World Bank and National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), to equip the youth with sufficient knowledge on conducting informal job specific training while offering internship in the traditional apprenticeship approach for a period of five months to beneficiary youths in demanded job specific skill areas in the informal sector.

She is currently training four young women in her salon. She always has at least one trainee at any point of operation and this she says is the reason she hasn’t employed anyone else because the trainees get on the job experience for the period they are under her guidance. She is very impressed by the progress her mentees make after successful completion of the training she offers, to set up their own salons or get employed in established salons.

The proceeds from her salon provide the school fees of her two children in high school and college as well as pay her house-rent , bills and all other household expenses. She has never thought of setting up a different venture for hairdressing she says is her talent and passion. The only thing she is set on doing is always learn new hair styles and trends to continue being relevant and satisfy her customers. A happy client is her priority!
