Despite her advancement in age, Martha Waruguru does not stay at home to wait for her grown children who have already left the nest to provide for all her needs. In addition to the small scale farming that she has practiced for a long time, she also has a stall from which she sells vegetables and fruits, as well as charcoal, to her customers in Moto village of Molo.
Her starting capital was $60 and she makes at least $8 a day. Her customers love her subtle yet aggressive nature with which she runs her small business. She is well known in the village for her fresh and affordable produce which ensures a constant stream of customers to her stall. She is not much bothered by the two stalls next to hers for her products and excellent customer service speak for her.
She is seeking $50 from MHML to be able to increase her stock so that she can meet the increased demand for her wares from her regular and new customers. She is focused on making her venture stable and more profitable for the proceeds are what help her to meet some of her household expenses like milk and charcoal, and also her personal effects and those of her last born child who is in grade seven at a public school in Molo town. Her focus and determination are such a welcome inspiration!
