Business: Milk Bar.
Location:
Tayari, Molo.
Years in Operation:
20 Years.
Amount needed:
$250

Marion is a most cool and calm lady yet such an aggressive business lady. At the moment, she is the buyer of milk from at least 30 local farmers in the villages of Molo the greater percentage of her suppliers being women. She finds a lot of joy with the little role she plays keeping a few small holder traders in business even as they themselves keep her own milk bar running.

She has run the milk bar for the last twenty years and is such a household name in the area. Her bar is squeaky clean and the seats and tables neatly laid out for customers. Besides selling fresh plain milk to customers who buy to take home, she also serves the milk in form of tea, coffee, drinking chocolate, plain milk and sour milk to those who come to drink at the bar. In addition, she cooks and serves a variety of snacks as accompaniment for the beverages.

She has created employment for two people who help her to run the milk bar so that it stays open at all the times when it should be up and running. In addition to customers who buy for their own use at the bar, she also supplies milk to various schools, institutions and other businesses. She buys for large scale farmers as well so that she can meet her own demand depending on how much stock she requires at any given time.

The mother of two school going children is able to educate them from the earnings from the milk bar and also feed them from the small farm she keeps to grow food for her own family’s domestic consumption. On the rare occasions that she gets surplus yield from her small holder farming of maize, potatoes, peas and vegetables, she sells the the surplus to small scale traders .

She is seeking $250 from Moto Hope Micro Lending to buy mattresses and bedding for the guest house that she is about to open. The six rooms are already complete with beds and with the funds she will be able to finally open the guest house to customers.
