Margret Wanjiku and her husband Hezekiah Chege are a household name in Makutano area of Kitale having been in business for the last twelve years. They present such a unified and formidable front selling cooking gas cylinders and gas, petroleum products, as well as running a mobile money transfer agency (MPESA).
Not many people have ventured into the gas business in the area and the couple gladly saves its clientele the time and resources they would otherwise spend having to go all the way to Kitale town many kilometers away for the said products. They saw a gap in the market and were daring enough to take the risk to fill it back when they had only a handful clients.
They have also ventured into large scale farming growing maize for sale to wholesale traders and the National Cereals and Produce Board. The maize also supplements their food basket back home for they use some of it for their own domestic consumption.
The proceeds from the business and their farming ventures are what enable them to cater for the needs of their nuclear family of four and pay the school fees of their two school going children. They are also able to partially provide for their extended families.
Margaret is seeking for $1000 to enable them to expand their gas and MPESA businesses to be in a position to meet their growing customer demands more adequately. This will translate to increased sales and further their profit earnings as well. Their business scaling upwards will also lead to the creation of employment for others, both directly and indirectly to provide the necessary human resource.
