Business: Beauty Salon.
Location:
Main Matatu Stage, Molo.
Years in Operation:
20 Years.
Amount needed:
$150.

Lucy Njeri’s salon is strategically located at Molo town’s main matatu stage where human traffic never ceases. Here she is able to entice travelers, other business  owners and hawkers and even Molo’s guests for it is the first salon they see when they alight from the public service vehicles or wait for the said vehicles to fill up. She has been at this spot for the last nine years and has no plans of moving anywhere else for she is happy where she is.

The mother of five and grandmother of one has been plaiting and styling hair for the last twenty years. The years on her hands evidenced by the work of her hands for over time, most of her new clients have come in through client referrals. She is able to pay for the school fees of her three school going children and also her grandchild’s fees as the grandchild’s mother (her daughter) is deceased and she is now her guardian.

Lucy has under her apprentice, four young women whom she is training the skill and has created employment for two other women whom she personally trained to help her in the salon and earn their own living. The busier the salon, the better for her for she is her family’s bread winner. She has over the years in her nine years in Molo won to her salon very loyal customers due to her gentle nature handling hair, her excellent skill, her great customer care  and pocket friendly prices.

The school holidays are here as well as the month of social functions in Molo (April). She expects the school going children now on their April Holidays as well as adults to flock her salon as has been the norm during this season for the hair styles that they can’t wear while school is in session as well as do their hairs for the various social functions and events. For this reason, she is seeking $150 from Moto Hope Micro Lending to purchase hair products whose demand will be very high at her salon; braids, hair extensions and weaves, hair oils and hair processing chemicals. This way, her customers will find everything they need under one roof.
