Joyce is a mother of two and operates a small hotel near Makutano Primary School which has a population of about 1,000 students. The hotel is adjacent to the school, she is popularly known for her good “Mandazi”, a locally baked bread which is common in Kenya. She specializes making mandazi and tea which is affordable to school going children. Most primary students can’t afford to have a proper meal for lunch because of the low income levels of their parents. Therefore Joyce’s hotel serves the need of many students who attend the public school.
Joyce needs a small loan of $120 in order to be able to bake more mandazi to meet her demand. The loan will enable her employ someone to assist her with the work and she believes that with the loan she can even start distributing to the nearby shops. She intends to repay the loan in four months.
