Isaiah Miriti is a young man barely out of tertiary education who after little success in securing employment in the formal sector, decided to venture into self employment in order to fully support himself. He did not want to continue depending on his parents hence decided to engage in something that would instead enable him to even support them once in a while. With his savings and support from the parents, he set up a mobile money transfer (MPESA) Agency shop in Kitale’s Mwaita market.
With time he started serving very many customers who would come into the market and the shops to buy various goods. As he enjoyed the loyalty of so many due to his friendly nature and his excellent customer care skills, he noticed that most of his customers after withdrawing money from his MPESA Agency, would go to the shops right next to his agency to buy various fast moving items. The retail shop business idea suddenly refused to leave him.
With his savings as his initial capital, he set up a retail shop stocked with fast moving goods that are in high demand. His customers are now able to find so much under one roof and this is his greatest joy. His hardworking nature has won over to his business many people from the neighboring villages who see him as the young people’s role model.
Isaiah is seeking $150 from Moto Hope Micro Lending to boost his business by purchasing more stock that will adequately satisfy the demands of his customers.
