“I have never been more at home with any other money lending institution as I am with Moto Hope Micro-Lending.” are the first words that come out George’s mouth.
He is a focused budding entrepreneur who is driven by the joy he feels after overcoming challenges. The father of two school going children and husband of one derives the upkeep of his family from his businesses. He is a maize trader based in Bonde area of Kitale. In addition, he has also ventured into the transportation business as well; owner of one passenger car (pro-box) plying the Kitale Makutano route. George also owns five acres of land and two cattle.
At the point of approaching us, George’s main challenge was meeting the increased demand of maize in the market. He needed 50 more bags to be able to supply to all his customers satisfactorily. In October 2017, MHML loaned him $1000 to do just that. Aside from the local customers and market traders, he sold some of his maize to Kenya Cereals and Produce Board.
The profits from his trade have been put into great use. Some of it he has ploughed back into the business. He has also invested some in his farm this maize planting season as well as treated his cattle.
He has created employment for two people who assist him in the trade and engages casual laborers in his farm in response to need. His future plan is to expand his business and buy more land to be able to meet all his maize need. He wants to reduce his input costs of farming in order to maximize his earnings and also counter the government’s plan of lowering the prices of Kenya’s staple food; maize. We at MHML will journey with him in his impactful ventures.
