Location: Molo Market
Years in Operation: 20 Years
Amount needed: $100
At the mouth of Molo market is a very vibrant and pleasant woman whose stall is a buzz of activities as traders and consumers with baskets in hand try to pick their choice oranges. Esther Kemunto looks on in delight offering a word of advice here and helping another client to pick the best fruits there. All the while she is on her feet to keep a close eye on things and easily moves to whichever end she is needed.
Esther has been selling oranges and mangoes (whichever is in season) on both retail and wholesale basis for the last twenty years; since the days of her youth she says brightly. Traders from Molo’s main market as well as the markets within its environs, roadside traders, hawkers, and domestic consumers are among her regular customers. Proceeds from this venture are what she and her husband use to educate their three school going children as well as cater for their family needs.
She gets her stock from far and wide to ensure variety, good quality and the freshest supply. She sometimes gets her stock as far as neighboring Uganda. Her excellent customer relations skills and the uniquely individual treatment she accords her customers has ensured her dominance in the market. In addition, she sells the fruits at very friendly prices which in turn translates to more sales, high earnings more profits for her while enabling the small scale traders who buy from her to also enjoy profits from their own sales.
She is seeking $100 to be able to increase the oranges stock in order to meet the growing demand for her oranges. Many small scale traders are venturing into the fruit selling business and she is eager to attract all the new customers to add onto her already growing customer share in the market.
