Business: Groceries.
Location:
Nyayo High-rise, Nairobi.
Years in Operation:
3 Years.
Amount needed:
$1,050.

Tomatoes are on very high demand thanks to their current nonavailability that has led  prices to continue to hit the roof each passing day. Those who trade in the tomato business are making quite a kill despite the very high cost of purchasing stock seeing as tomatoes are a basic ingredient in most dishes thus demanded by most if not all households in Kenya. Elizabeth Mwende runs a very busy groceries stall in Nairobi’s Nyayo High-rise estate. She has been in the business for the last three years selling tomatoes, onions, capsicum, coriander, green peas and green leafy vegetables.  She has created employment for two young ladies who help her to serve customers. The young ladies ensure that the business is always running even when she is out at Malikiti and Muthurwa farmers’ markets to purchase stock.

She is seeking $1,050 from Moto Hope Micro Lending in order to boost her business especially the tomatoes stock. She would like to take advantage of the market forces of demand and supply around tomatoes, to stock as much as is demanded. Some of the funds will also go towards clearing the school fees balance of one of her two school going children. This business enables Elizabeth to pay for her children’s education as well as meet all of her family’s needs. Both children are in high school in form two and form three and their school fees needs have trebled compared to when they were in primary school. For this reason, she needs her business to be making more sales to boost her profit earnings.

In addition, She also has two people under her employment who also depend on the good performance of the business to be able to provide for their own families. She chose Moto Hope Micro Lending because of the low interest rates offered and most especially because of how flexible and friendly the repayment terms are she says gladly. We wish her and the business the very best as she focuses on scaling upwards for she is very focused, hard working and determined to grow and expand.
