“The Computer shop” at the heart of Molo is the first one of its kind and the sole computers and computer accessories shop in the whole of Molo.
Elijah Mweri its owner is a beneficiary of Moto Hope Micro-Lending and has been in business since 2012. Elijah is reaching out to his community and impacting the lives of a very large pool of customers within and without Molo town. Born in Naivasha, his family moved to Molo when he started school where he studied for both his Primary and High school studies. He did not join University immediately after high school, he instead started his business.
Elijah says he started very humbly. He had a single desktop computer and a photocopying machine that his friend loaned him. He paid a regular appreciation fee to his friend once his little cyber commenced operations. It was located behind Family bank past a dark corridor and a little hidden from the main highway. Elijah and his partner (his wife Judy Mweri) relied solely on the friendly and quality services they provided to incentivize the customers to refer more potential clients to them. Team spirit is evident as he keeps referring to the business as “our business” and the words “my team and I” feature in most of his speech.
Elijah is the true definition of hard work, persistence, perseverance and focus. Moto Hope Mission is also one of his clients. He was introduced to Micro-Lending by the founder of Moto Hope Mission; Fr. Francis Kabiru when he met him during his field visit to St. Francis Moto Hope Academy where he had gone to install networking. It was at a time when he was straining to raise starting capital for the computer shop. Moto Hope Micro-Lending loaned Elijah $5000 which he added to his savings to start ‘The Computer Shop” in August 2017.
The Computer Shop and the Cyber cafe have created employment for five people; two at the shop, two at the Cyber and one field officer. Elijah and his partner are serving the Molo community inhabitants and those from Keringet, Olenguruone, Londiani, Mau Summit, Elburgon, Njoro, Sachangwan and Rongai. He continues to attract more customers and maintain the existing ones. Elijah is an enabler of communities; connecting them to the internet. Molo residents no longer have to travel to Nakuru for online government services for his skilled employees, partner and himself provide the network and guide them in all their needs. He provides them with quality and pocket friendly internet and computer services. He has created a name for himself and is known by all and sundry. His clients include schools, offices, shops, supermarkets and individuals who require his products and services. Elijah is living his dream. Besides serving his community, he is providing a comfortable life for his nuclear and extended family.
