Business: Cereal and Whole Grain.
Location:
Molo Town.
Years in Operation:
1 Year.
Amount needed:
$300.

Beth is a very soft spoken and calm yet very sociable and easily creates a rapport with clients. She is only a year old in business but has customers who would be caught dead buying from anyone else but her. She provides them with all the dry grain they demand at very affordable prices for she makes a point to only purchase her stock from wholesalers who supply her with stock at reasonable price in Nakuru’s farmers’ market. Customers are assured of the quality of grain she stocks. She make sure the grains are properly dried to prevent rotting and stores them in the required containers and bags which also helps her to avoid losses from rotting and pests.

At the beginning, her business wasn’t all rosy. She would go days without making any sales and she quickly sought ways to curb the dry days. She started visiting institutions around her to advertise the products she stocks. She started delivering to customers at their places of work something no one else was doing on her side of town and this won her very loyal customers.  She also approached food kiosk owners around her business whom after offering good deals gradually became her customers. For big orders especially other businesses she allows buying on credit while  for the day-to-day customers she sells on a cash-only basis for she is aware that credit sales are the main cause of failure for small cereal and wholegrain outlets.

Her business enables her to pay for the school fees of her two school going children as well as cater for her family’s needs with the support of her husband. She is seeking $300 from Moto Hope Micro Lending to  enjoy the current cheaper prices in the market as most farmers are looking to empty their granaries as they await the next harvest. She stocks fast moving products which include: Beans (Nyayo, Rosecoco, Yellow beans, Mwitemania, Butter Beans, Gituru and Gachuma varieties), Porridge Flour(Baridi, Wimbi, Mawele, Mtama, Ndimu), Green Grams (Ordinary, Nylon, Makueni, Lentils), Nuts(Njugu Mawe, Groundnuts) and Rice(Pure Mwea, Thailand, Pakistan, Sindano, Fivestar, Basmati, Brown Mwea) so her customers never miss out on whichever varieties they prefer.
