Anne’s retail shop is strategically located opposite Molo Sub County Hospital. Many patients and staff who get treated and work at the hospital frequent her shop due to its proximity. Anne stocks fast moving goods mostly snacks, soft drinks, fruits and over the counter medical items e.g. cotton wool and surgical spirit. She also sells plastic wares like basins, buckets, mugs, plates, spoons and bathroom sandals that inpatients find useful. Over lunch hour and at hospital visiting hours, her shop is a beehive of activity as people flock to buy what they need.
The widowed mother of two school going children is very hardworking and determined to see her children provided for. She has run her shop for the last ten years and many people easily identify with her for she is very friendly and strives to please and satisfy her customers. The good performance and growth of her business is a necessity she cannot ignore. She is the sole bread winner and her children’s school fees and all of their basic needs are derived from proceeds from the shop.
Anne is seeking $300 to purchase more stock to revive her dwindling sales. At the moment, her shop is not doing so well as the stock is low. In addition, she is unable to meet all of her customers’ demand. However, with the funds, she will buy stock in bulk enjoying economies of scale through better prices. Meeting her customers’ demand will in turn return her sales back to their previous highs.
