Anne Awino Opondo is a vibrant, hardworking and pleasant entrepreneur who is fulfilling the many dreams and aspirations of her business. Her Boutique in Cherangany area of Kitale has been in operation for the last five years and she is not about to close shop any time soon. MHML loaned her $1000 to increase the stock of her shop. She trades in men’s, women’s and children’s clothes, fabric, cushions and also practices tailoring all under one roof.
The credit enabled her to import ankara fabric from Uganda which is of very good quality aside from being of beautiful varieties, a gem for ladies’ dresses as well as men’s shirts. She capitalized on the new family uniform trend (where whole families get tailor made wear from the same ankara fabric) selling ankara fabric as well as making unique designs for her clients. She has created employment for two young female tailors who work in her shop with her. Once in a while she teaches the trade to learners (who aspire to be tailors) at relatively small fees.
In addition, she was able to place a huge order of cushions and mattresses from Nakuru town which she also sells in her shop. She also added a soft drinks and fast moving goods section in her shop which has recorded very commendable sales and exceeded her projected sales. Her growing business is doing well and she is encouraged by the growing demand for her products as well as the loyalty of her customers.
The proceeds from her business when combined with those of her husband’s (a businessman in Narok) enable them to cater for the school fees needs of her five children as well as all their basic needs. She is full of praise for MHML for giving her the much needed funds for her business’ growth and expansion.
