Alice Soi is a very hardworking woman who has spent the better part of her adult life farming. The mother of nine has been earning a living from tilling her lands and selling the yield in the Molo market and to other traders in the neighboring Mau summit market center for close to twenty years now. She started farming way back when she was still just a girl living in her parent’s house and thus learned the practice and the business early on. She is very passionate about what she does and takes a lot of pride in seeing her hard work come to fruition. She has taken seven of her nine children through basic school and has the younger two in school thanks to the small scale agribusiness that she is engaged in.
Alice’s first loan from Moto Hope Micro Lending was $50 which she invested in the purchase of pesticides and fertilizer for her fruit farm. She earns at least $20 every week from the tree tomato fruits that she sells to other market traders. Besides this, she also engages in maize and vegetable farming. Alice has dairy cattle, three in total whose milk she sells to buyers from her vicinity as well as directly to homes of her friends and neighbors for their own consumption. She takes very proper care of her cattle and has even grown boma rhodes grass for them to ensure sufficient milk production to meet the demand from customers who enjoy its good quality.
She is seeking $200 from Moto Hope Micro Lending in order to get ready for the planting season. The money will enable her to purchase maize seeds, fertilizer as well as pay for the labor that will enable her to till the land and plant. The maize that she will be planting on a two acre hired farm is intended for selling to wholesalers upon harvest and she is very focused on ensuring maximum yield.
